Why a veteran chose to invest in the fast-growing drywall repair franchise
After more than a decade in the military, Eric Keefer and his family started looking at opportunities to own their own business. It didn’t take long to find the perfect investment in The Patch Boys.
Already well versed in the entrepreneur world, Keefer knew two of the most important aspects of starting a business are low buy-in costs and high potential on the Return on Investment – qualities he identified in The Patch Boys franchise.
“We did our due diligence and research, and it didn’t take us very long to say yes to the whole thing,” Keefer said.
Now, Keefer is an established franchise owner in the Dallas-Fort Worth market, and plans to keep expanding throughout the region.
In this interview, Keefer talks about the keys to expanding a franchise, how The Patch Boys provide pandemic-resilient and what his plans are for the future of his business.
Q: When did you decide it was the right time to expand the franchise?
A: The fact is, it is possible to make a lot of money with this business. But you have to find out where your break-even point is, and then surpass that figure. We found the greatest way to do that is add more people and increase marketing. Adding more employees increases your revenue stream, and you have to get your name out there to edge competitors. It seems very simple, but the market has to be there.
Q: And how has business been?
A: We shattered our revenue projections, and are now one of the top-performing Patch Boys franchise owners in the network. Every month has been better than the last, and we don’t see any signs of slowing down.
Q: Did you find The Patch Boys model weathered the pandemic?
A: Absolutely. People were at home more and seeing imperfections in their house. So I think COVID, actually, did this industry a favor. Even now, people are still working from home and they’re staring at their walls, realizing it’s time to finally fix them with our drywall services.
Q; What kind of support does The Patch Boys and the BELFOR Franchise Group provide?
A: The support has been absolutely great. Whenever I have a question or need advice, I get a call back within an hour. The team has been very responsive, and that’s kind of unusual, when you think about other franchises. We went from having weekly meetings to bi-weekly once I got the hang of every aspect of the franchise, so really, the support has been phenomenal.
Q: What are your hopes and plans for the future?
A: I fully expect to own all of Dallas-Fort Worth at some point. With this business, you can grow it as big as you want. . You just have to have the right mindset and drive to do it.
